Limited testing ability there. Fuel is new. I emptied all old gas before initial crankup. I put some Mercury Quikleen in the tank before adding new gas. OK first put the thermostats back in. The thermostats restrict and control the amount of water around the cylinder head. If you run without thermostats the water is circulating too fast and doesn't allow the cylinder head to run at the proper temperature and doesn't allow the cooling water to take the heat from the engine.Description. This is how I would address this: 1) Pull 1987 power head and adapter plate. 2) Pull 1977 powerhead and adapter plate.
