It appears that the research agreement mechanic will be different in Civilization 6. Yeah, rather than getting a generic dump of science to be used by whatever you are researching, you instead focus on a specific technology. When completed, you get some progress to that research; I think you actually get the eureka for the technology. You can either choose to support one ally, support the other, or even ignore both. The one you spurn goes to war with you immediately and you suffer a permanent diplomatic penalty with them. Try to aim for Eurekas and not waste research by fully researching techs that you can boost. Remember that the science from Eurekas does not overflow into the next research. Eurekas normally give 40% of a tech. But if you already researched 90% of a tech, that eureka only gives you 10% and the 30% is completely lost.You really shouldn't have a set in stone research path to use for every game.
