Things changed when I moved to New York City in 2014 and began studying dance at Pace University. There, I was introduced to the Rockette precision style and the Rockettes Summer Intensive. It was after my first amazing summer at the intensive that becoming a Radio City Rockette became my dream! 2.
To become a Rockette, a dancer must be at least 18 years old, between 5 feet 5 inches (1.65 metres; height restrictions were lowered from 5 feet 6 inches [1.68 metres] in 2022) and 5 feet 10.5 inches (1.79 metres) tall, and proficient in tap, jazz, ballet, and modern dance. The average weight of a Rockette is 115 pounds. However, there is a wide range of sizes among the dancers, with some weighing as little as105 pounds and others tipping the scales at 135 pounds.
