Instead Plex creates a second listing for the director in the smart collections drop down list. To fix this I have to delete the smart collection, restart Plex and then create the collection again from scratch. I bet you can imagine how infuriating this is. What you're looking for is smart collections. You can automate them through an add on called Plex Meta Manager or do them manually like I do. Basically you can set perameters for a collection to automatically add media such as genre, release date, title, collection, etc.
