I changed the fluid in my wife's 2012 Civic which was bought used in 2015 with about 30k miles. It was much darker than new fluid. Changed it at the next two oil changes and now it's nice and red. I'd change it if the color looks noticeably darker than new. It's cheap insurance and takes an extra 5 minutes when doing an oil change.
