Fair History. The Steuben County Fair is the oldest continually running fair in the United States. Originated in 1819 there were 9 categories for judging with prizes given to exhibitors of cattle, sheep and produce. Horse racing was also an attraction. The original grandstand was built in 1872 followed by a second grandstand which burned in 1966. Steuben County ( $905) has a 35.3% lower FMR for 2-Bedroom housing than the average of New York ( $1,398) and therefore has a lower gross rent. Steuben County is rank 54th out of 62 counties. This means the FMRs, or in other words, the gross rent is lower than 53 other counties. Steuben County is the 9th cheapest county in terms of FMRs.
